Tell us a bit about yourself and what you're up to now
I've been incredibly passionate about the business development space for the past 4 years achieving great success within my first role which led to countless coaching opportunities where I found my passion for helping others succeed. At Ballpark I built their outbound sales process from the ground up and have hired and coached several BDRs.
What was your journey into a career in Tech Sales
Before tech sales I worked in financial services. I always had a passion for hitting targets and being competitive even back in the days of selling credit cards, investments or mortgages! I remember being 19 years old at 1200% of target during my first role at RBS and first discovering how great it felt to achieve success!
What would you say are the best things about working in Tech Sales
The adrenaline rush is like no other! Whilst there are lows, the highs are like no other industry. Knowing that your work and success influences not only your teams performance but the overall success of the company is so rewarding. Being able to teach how important empathy & humanity is in sales and how to stand out from the crowd and use your own creativity to win deals is great!
What advice would you give to someone who is just about to start their career in sales
Sales Development truly is a rollercoaster ride. One where you'll experience tremendous highs alongside deep lows. My advice would be to never lose sight of the immense value you're bringing to the company, even when times seem tough. To understand that whilst ghosting & rejection might lead you to believing you're doing things wrong, you can never know which outside factors are impacting that persons decision making.
I'd also advise learning to walk before you run. Perfecting the SDR craft before being too eager to step into that closing AE role. The best AEs start as the best SDRs, and your part in the sales cycle is the most crucial of all.
To have fun, enjoy it, and let your personality and creativity shine. Sales people are not robots, and you shouldn't have to act like one.
I could go on and on but will not make this an essay :)
Why did you decide to join Tangent as a Mentor and why should others join as Mentors too
I joined Tangent because I know how difficult it can be to step into a new field whilst also acknowledging how rewarding it can be. As someone who came with zero tech sales background and within his first few months at an Enterprise tech company was crushing it as a top performer, im a lived example that anyone can thrive in this environment, without previous experience.
I wanted to coach and inspire new talent to chase their dreams and guide them as well as I can to achieve them.
