Tell us a bit about yourself and what you're up to now
Originally a science teacher, moved to sales around 10 years ago and have worked in a few industries such as recruitment, pharmaceutical, SaaS and now at Gartner leading a business development team. In my spare time I mainly parent but also live sport. I’m a keen runner/cyclist/gym goer/snowboarder.
What was your journey into a career in Tech Sales
I came into tech from pharma sales, I was head hunted into a medtech startup.
What would you say are the best things about working in Tech Sales
Work/life balance. Having been a teacher I was working 10-12 hour days for a fraction of the pay. Now I manage my diary as I wish to fit around my life which is great
What advice would you give to someone who is just about to start their career in sales
I think one of the most important things in sales is mindset! Staying positive in times of adversity/ challenge has a huge impact on your outlook/ability to problem solve and your mental health!
Why did you decide to join Tangent as a Mentor and why should others join as Mentors too
Coming from a teaching background I’ve always had a passion for passing on knowledge/helping others progress. I also wish something like Tangent existed 10 years ago when I was looking to move into sales!
Mentoring is a great way to give back but also a way to build a network and refine your sales skills/knowledge by teaching others
