Tell us a bit about yourself and what you're up to now

Originally I'm from India but have lived in the UK for most of my life before moving to Stockholm and continuing my tech career.

I love playing and making music any chance I get! This tends to overlap with collecting records, the rarer the better!

I currently work in CS Ops at Planhat, helping build a great company, designing and rolling out best practices.

What was your journey into a career in Tech Sales

I've been in Customer Success for almost 15 years starting out in a call centre.

It wasn't easy, but I had plenty of practice facing rejection or needing conflict resolution over the phone.

Learning how to call outbound and answer incoming queries efficiently proved to be an amazing asset to this day. Looking back, I wouldn't have wanted anything different.

From here I moved into Support desk roles leveraging my Statistics background and phone experience to then grow into Portfolio management roles.

What would you say are the best things about working in Tech Sales

Ultimately, working in customer facing roles is all about communication. Typically it's with one other person. Everything you learn about selling, driving processes, dealing with challenges when communicating, crosses over to life outside of work. All these skills are so important and getting the experience through work really helps.

Tech tends to move at quite a fast pace, so theres plenty of chance to work with lots of different roles and people. Great if you're still figuring out what you want to do!

What advice would you give to someone who is just about to start their career in sales

Most important is not to be afraid of failing. We don't know how to tackle situations the first time, all we can do is learn and adapt for the next one. Everyone makes mistakes and everyone fails, there's no shame to it.

Be a sponge for knowledge. Listen and always have a beginners mindset using that information. I still learn plenty every week! If you don't know something ASK!

Why did you decide to join Tangent as a Mentor and why should others join as Mentors too

I would never be in the position I am today without great mentors in my career. Tangent provides a great opportunity to make a difference and I love helping people get started in their careers, much as I had the same done for me. Sometimes all we need is a guiding voice to help push us forward.
