Tell us a bit about yourself and what you're up to now
I've been a CSM for over 6 years in 2 different companies, with a huge variety of responsbilities in that time... But typically all customer focused!
I'm a pretty reserved guy outside of work. I enjoy reading about history, going to restaurants and watching football. Also running with podcasts or heavy metal playing.
What was your journey into a career in Tech Sales
I studied journalism at university and dabbled in it briefly after I graduated, alongside working in pubs... Which paid me more than the journalism ever did.
After a few years I decided I wanted to work in an office doing a more traditional 9-5 job, so started applying for BDR roles, and after a few months of applying and interviewing, got a role at a SaaS company in Victoria.
With a bit of training and a lot of hard work, I made a success of it and have loved working in commercial roles ever since in both sales and then customer success!
What would you say are the best things about working in Tech Sales
Working with very intelligent people, with cutting edge technology and developing both yourself and your career in ways you may have never even considered!
What advice would you give to someone who is just about to start their career in sales
Be open minded, be prepared to work hard and always bring solutions to problems.
Why did you decide to join Tangent as a Mentor and why should others join as Mentors too
I've always enjoyed coaching people. It's something I've done in every role I've ever done, even going back to my Saturday jobs as a teenager, and I'd take massive satisfaction in knowing I've helped people with taking new exciting steps in their career through mentorship.
I'd encourage anyone else who feels similarly to give it a go as it's extremely rewarding for both mentees and mentors.
