Tell us a bit about yourself and what you're up to now
Hi! I’m Ruairi. I’m originally from Scotland and have been living in London for around six years. I’ve worked across a range of sectors—including healthcare strategy, fintech, and martech—and I enjoy helping others navigate challenges I’ve faced myself.
In my free time, I love hiking in Scotland whenever I get the chance, catching up with friends over a pint, and making the most of everything London has to offer.
What was your journey into a career in Tech Sales
Before moving into the Customer Success Tech space, I worked in the Expert Network space. My client was exclusively McKinsey & Company, and I learned a lot about account management, relationship building and negotiation. This was my springboard into a rapidly growing Fintech startup, where I acted as the person who wears many hats, which helped me learn a lot about the Tech space!
What would you say are the best things about working in Tech Sales
I’d say the best part of working in Customer Success Tech is the flexibility and autonomy the role offers. Having worked across a variety of fields, I’ve found that this space really empowers people to shape their roles in a way that works best for them.
Of course, we all have targets, but how I achieve those goals is up to me. That freedom to chart my own path makes the work incredibly rewarding.
What advice would you give to someone who is just about to start their career in sales
Don't be afraid to lean on a community and ask questions. A lot of people have been where you are, and would love the chance to offer a bit of advice about how they've navigated the same difficulties that you're facing.
Why did you decide to join Tangent as a Mentor and why should others join as Mentors too
I joined Tangent because I've been looking for a way to give back a little. I had a mentor very early on in my career, and they helped fill in a lot of my blanks. Mentoring fills my cup, and it's rewarding to help others.
