Tell us a bit about yourself and what you're up to now
I bring a diverse skill set and a wealth of expertise in Business Development and Sales, having successfully navigated industries with creativity and resilience. My career journey started in the arts, where I worked as a contemporary dancer, performing and touring across Europe. Transitioning to the corporate world, I embraced the challenges of adapting to a new environment and discovered a passion for sales and business growth.
Feeling initially behind in terms of building a professional network, I found a sense of belonging and support through Women in Banking and Finance. This pivotal experience not only helped me gain confidence but also inspired me to contribute more actively to fostering inclusivity and professional development. It ultimately led to my involvement on the Shadow Board and my role as Co-Chair at the Future Leaders Network, where I work to create impactful opportunities for emerging professionals and shape the leaders of tomorrow.
As the Co-Chair of the Future Leaders Network, I am passionate about creating impactful opportunities for emerging professionals and helping shape the leaders of tomorrow. I also dedicate time to mentoring individuals transitioning into sales through Tangent, sharing my personal journey from the arts to thriving in sales. I love helping others navigate change with confidence and empowering them to reach their full potential.
I am deeply committed to empowering women in underrepresented fields. Building communities where women can thrive, connect, and support one another is incredibly important to me. I actively champion inclusivity and work to break barriers so that women can succeed in fields where their representation is limited.
Outside of work, I enjoy cooking and anything that gets me outside in the sun.
What was your journey into a career in Tech Sales
I began my career in the performing arts, working as a contemporary dancer and touring across Europe. I moved to the UK to pursue a master's degree in Dance Performance from Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Dance and Music, but when the pandemic hit, all my work suddenly came to a halt. Faced with the need for income, I recognized my ability to sell and sought out guidance from a mentor and an interview coach. Their support helped me secure an entry-level sales position at PitchBook Data, where I thrived, earning four promotions within just two years. This journey marked a pivotal shift in my career, demonstrating my adaptability and determination to succeed.
What would you say are the best things about working in Tech Sales
One of the best things about working in Tech Sales is the stability and earning potential it offers. In an ever-evolving industry, tech sales roles provide consistent opportunities for growth and financial rewards. The commission structures often allow for high earning potential, particularly for those who excel at meeting and exceeding targets. For me, this career path also meant achieving financial stability and building savings—something I was able to provide for myself for the first time.
Moreover, working in sales sharpened the resilience and grit I had already developed during my time in the arts. Auditioning as a contemporary dancer required persistence, the ability to bounce back from rejection, and a constant drive to improve—qualities that seamlessly transitioned into my sales career. These experiences gave me the determination to face challenges head-on, learn from setbacks, and hustle to achieve results.
Tech sales also provides a fantastic entry point into the corporate world, offering the chance to learn about the industry and build a strong foundation of knowledge. It’s a unique opportunity to explore various paths, gain clarity on long-term goals, and figure out where you truly want to go in your career.
What advice would you give to someone who is just about to start their career in sales
Be Coachable: Coachability is defined as the willingness and ability to seek, be receptive to, and act on constructive feedback to drive personal growth and improve performance. I learned this early in my career as a dancer, working closely with choreographers to bring their creative visions to life. This required leaving my ego and personal ideas at the door, embracing feedback, and adapting quickly—a mindset that has been invaluable in sales, where learning and improving are key to success.
Work Smarter, Not Harder: Success in sales isn’t just about putting in long hours—it’s about maximizing your efforts and managing your time effectively. Finding ways to streamline tasks, prioritize effectively, and focus on high-impact activities can make a big difference. For instance, using tools like trackers to stay organized and attending networking events to make meaningful connections are ways to work smarter and achieve better results.
Stay Open to Growth: Much like being coachable, staying open to feedback and continuously refining your approach is essential. The ability to listen, adapt, and evolve ensures long-term success in any sales career.
Take Initiative: Proactively seek opportunities to learn and grow. Whether it’s attending industry events, meeting with mentors, or shadowing experienced colleagues, taking charge of your development will not only build your skills but also your confidence.
Why did you decide to join Tangent as a Mentor and why should others join as Mentors too
I wouldn’t be where I am today without the support of a few mentors and colleagues who guided me on what roles to apply for, how to navigate corporate interviews, and tailor my CV effectively. Their advice was invaluable, and without it, I might not have broken into the corporate world.
Now, I’m committed to paying it forward—helping others navigate corporate hierarchies, prepare for interviews, and overcome barriers to entry. These can include learning how to be professional or understanding the small but significant details that make a big difference. Great talent shouldn’t be held back by a lack of guidance, and I’m passionate about ensuring others have the support they need to succeed.
