Tell us a bit about yourself and what you're up to now
After college I made the decision not to go to University but instead pursue a career in Sales. I held a number of junior positions before moving into Enterprise Tech Sales in 2013 and have since gone on to represent some of the world’s largest tech brands. I currently work for a privately owned boutique IT solutions and services reseller, NG-IT Ltd (www.ng-it.co.uk) as an Account Executive. I am responsible for the full sales cycle, from initial conversation with a prospective customer through to doing business together.
Outside of work, I enjoy Rugby, running around after my young kids and planning our next trip abroad!
What was your journey into a career in Tech Sales
I was fortunate that my father was already well connected in the Tech industry and he was made aware of a role within a new team at a large IT distributor. I didn’t enjoy the role I was doing at the time so decided to submit an application and the rest is history.
What would you say are the best things about working in Tech Sales
I think there are two skills that will serve you well in any walk of life. One is marketing and the other is Sales. If you can master one or both, you’re well set.
Working in Tech Sales for me means constant learning and improvement as industry trends frequently change. Sales teaches you persistence, resilience and how to problem solve, often on the spot! You’re forced to accept you can’t control every outcome but you can control the effort and input you put in.
Of course, the by product of Tech Sales is the earnings potential and lifestyle this can support for you and your family.
What advice would you give to someone who is just about to start their career in sales
Throw yourself in, embrace the steep and constant learning and development curve, honing and pivoting your skills as you go. You will work with some amazing people, on some amazing projects and have many great opportunities you wouldn’t ordinarily get in most other industries.
